Almost everyone who came across Zoey, the labrador-German shepherd puppy adopted by Drew and Sadie Williams from Louisiana three years ago, immediately noticed her long tongue.
And there’s a good reason why it’s so noticeable.
Not only is Zoey’s tongue incredibly long, it’s longer than any other dog’s in the world!

The story of Zoey’s remarkable 5-inch (12.7 cm) tongue, making her the dog with the longest tongue in the world, was initially featured on the Guinness World Records‘ website on Friday.
How the Williamses met Zoey
The story of how the Williamses ended up with Zoey traces back to June 2020, when Sadie and her husband stumbled upon an online post from someone desperately seeking new homes for an unexpected litter of puppies.
The Williamses reached out to that person and made the decision to adopt Zoey into their family as Zoey matched a mix that appealed to them.

“It was kind of a perfect match,” said Drew Williams.
When the Williamses received Zoey, she was only five weeks old. But even at the young age, the couple immediately noticed Zoey’s tongue protruding out of her mouth.
As Zoey grew and met more people, people frequently commented, “Wow, she has a really long tongue,” Drew recalled fondly.
Drew even decided to conduct a comparison by measuring the length of Zoey’s tongue against a 4.5 inch (11.43 cm) butter knife. Holding it next to Zoey’s tongue, he could tell that Zoey’s tongue was longer by at least half an inch, Drew recalled.

Why not go for the record?
Eventually, someone suggested that Zoey’s tongue might possibly set a world record for its length if such a record existed.
Intrigued by the idea, Drew visited the Guinness World Records website and discovered that the title for the longest tongue on a living dog was vacant since the previous record holder, a St Bernard named Mochi from Sioux Falls, South Dakota, passed away in 2021. Mochi’s impressive licker measured 7.31 inches (18.58 cm) in length.
Motivated by the opportunity, Sadie and Drew made the decision to go for the record.
They brought Zoey to a veterinarian in Metairie who carefully measured the length of Zoey’s tongue from the tip of her snout, ensuring accuracy for the Guinness World Records submission.
They assembled a package of videos, pictures, and witness statements to validate Zoey’s claim for the record and submitted it to Guinness, an organization renowned for maintaining a vast database of over 40,000 world records.
So did she have the longest tongue of all living dogs in the world?
After a thorough review, Guiness confirmed that Zoey indeed had the longest tongue of a living dog in the world, snatching it from an English setter from Tucson, Arizona, named Bisbee.
They presented the Williamses with the certificate title in March, which is now proudly displayed on the mantle above their fireplace. It sits alongside a captivating painting capturing their beloved dog proudly sticking out her remarkable tongue.
According to Drew, almost no one can resist commenting on the eye-catching display.
“It’s quite the conversation starter,” Drew shared. “Not many people have seen one of those certificates up close, so it’s really exciting.”
Drew and Sadie wasted no time in celebrating Zoey’s achievement.
They headed straight to the store to indulge her with a selection of luxurious, individually wrapped doggie treats. They also engaged Zoey with her favorite activities such as fetching balls, chasing squirrels, going out on car rides, taking refreshing swims, and eating from her maze bowl designed to slow down her eating pace.
