As oil workers worked off the coast of Thailand, they suddenly spotted something strange moving through the water. It turned out to be a dog paddling his paws in the water. It seemed like he had swum 135 miles from shore!
Out in the Gulf of Thailand, Vitisak Payalaw and his co-workers worked in an oil rig when suddenly, they spotted a dog paddling in the water. It looked like it was tired after paddling far away from land.
The oil crew acted immediately in extracting the poor and lost stray from the water to not meet a watery demise. Visitak said that the dog’s eyes were telling them to help and rescue him.
Once they pulled the dog from the water and into the oil rig’s safety, the crew proceeded to dry the wet dog and gave him some food and water. The team gave the name Boonrod for the dog, which means “he has done good karma and helps him survive.”
After Boonrod was rescued, Visitak said that he looked too exhausted. He was shaking and couldn’t stand at all.
It’s unknown how a dog like Boonrod went out far from shore and into the middle of the Gulf of Thailand. Still, the workers suspected that Boonrod might have fallen from another vessel and was lucky enough to end up near the oil rig and rescued by the workers onboard.
Boonrod was then kept onboard the oil rig until Monday, where he was fed, pampered, and cared for by the Payalaw’s crew. When they arrived on land, Boonrod was then checked on by a local veterinarian, who said that the dog is in good health.
When Boonrod finally reached the dry lang, workers draped a necklace of marigolds around his neck, a symbol of welcome and good fortune.
While his owner is being searched for, Boonrod will be sheltered by Watchdog Thailand, a local organization run by volunteers and is passionate about the rescue and care of stray animals. If Boonrod’s owner isn’t located, Visitak is considering giving the dog a permanent home.
