Dogs can become best friends with any other animal it seems. First, it was a horse. Then it was a dolphin. Now, it appears that a dog has made friends with the biggest of them all: a whale shark.
Jade Pursell, a diving instructor, was simply enjoying the day out on the water with her dog, Sailor, off the coast of Western Australia. When a 22 foot long whale shark popped its head out of the water, Sailor decided to give it a quick kiss. Luckily, the interaction was quickly snapped up by Jade.
It was the first time that Sailor had come across a whale shark before. It was probably also the first time a dog and a whale shark have seen each other before. Jade was understandably cautious having such a big animal around her and Sailor, but those fears soon went away when Sailor had a sniff of the shark and gave it a kiss.
Jade was over the moon at the encounter. To see her dog up and close with a whale shark was an experience like no other, and the interaction could not have gone any better. Initially, she was worried that Sailor would take a leap of faith onto the shark, or reach out and touch the large marine animal. The worries went away once the whale shark got up and personal with the dog, as Jade realised that there was nothing to worry about.
Jade is grateful that she got to witness such an innocent interaction.
“It’s pretty special to think that Sailor is probably the only dog in the world to have kissed a whale shark.”
