Thanks to diet and exercise, a dog on the verge of being put down due to his weight is healthy once again.
This dog was going to be put down. The reason? He was too fat.
A dog on the verge of being put down has been saved due to a special diet. Phillip was severely overweight due to his love of stuffing his face with sweet treats such as cake and biscuits.
In fact, his weight of 10 stone 5lbs made him at risk of being put down due to health risks.
Phillip the Springer Spaniel struggled to walk, and went so much as having stopped eating altogether.
His vet, Edward Davies, told Phillip’s owner that Phillip might be near the end when he examined the pooch half a year ago.
Thus, Davies decided to adopt Phillip from his original owner, and thanks to a strict new diet, the Springer Spaniel has dropped an incredible five stone, or 31.7 kilograms.
Nowadays, swimming has replaced eating as Phillip’s favourite pastime.
Phillip the Springer Spaniel weighed a frightening 65 kgs, or 10 stone and 5lbs, when Edward Davies first encountered him.
Davies is a veterinarian with over 30 years of experience. And in all his time working, he had never seen a dog as overweight as Phillip.
At the time, Phillip’s weight was triple what would be considered healthy for a dog of his age and size. Walking was not just a challenge for Phillip, it was almost impossible.
But thanks to a new, strict diet and a new regiment of exercise, Phillip has lost most of his weight.
He now enjoys swimming at the local reservoir, as well as playing with Davis’ two other dogs.
Thanks to the new regiment of exercise and diet, Davis reckons that Phillip should be able to get back to the ideal healthy weight this year.
And that is incredible for a dog, who only 12 months ago, was on the verge of being put down due to excessive weight.
