Dog finally reunited with owner after being lost for 29 days.
For 29 days, Zane Brunette was unsure where her 6-year-old Labrador Retriever mix Luigi was after losing him back in June. Luigi and Brunette got separated in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area (BWCA), Minnesota, on the first day of their camping trip.
They were finally reunited last Monday, with Luigi having barely a scratch on him. But for those 29 days, Brunette was unsure whether the reunion was ever going to happen.
On the first day of their camping trip in June, Brunette noticed a suspicious group of individuals near the Sawbill Trail connecting Sawbill Lake and Lake Superior.
Brunette had a suspicion that they wanted Luigi, so the group lured Luigi away and kept him. By the time Brunette realised his dog was gone, it was already too late. He had lost his dog.
Brunette attempted to find his dog by climbing to the highest point he could see and yelling out his dog’s name. However, Brunette soon realises that his calls were hopeless so he gave up and kept going with his trip.
Brunette stayed for a couple more days. During that time, he managed to create some missing dog fliers and posted them around the area.
No longer a lost dog.
Finally, after weeks of waiting, he finally received the call he’s been waiting for. Another camper, Marit Warren, found Luigi near her family cabin, more than 30 miles from where he was last seen.
When Brunette saw Luigi again, he was shocked that Luigi was in a fairly good condition with no scratches, burs, or ticks.
“I called him and he came straight into my arms,” Brunette said. “I just picked him up and held him”.
However, Luigi is slightly underweight by about 15 pounds. But Brunette says that’s nothing a few delicious snacks and some lounging around can’t fix.
Brunette suspects that Luigi must have escaped or that the thieves abandoned Luigi once they saw the missing dog posters.
Regardless, Brunette’s just happy to have his dog back and wants to thank everyone who spread the message. A vet gave Luigi a quick check-up and gave him the all clear. Brunette is currently inviting friends and family over to his house to give Luigi some well-deserved pats.
“He’s just a very special dog.”
