Eric Weloth was ready to go home one day after his long night shift at the gym. As he walked to his car at one in the morning, he saw an abandoned and abused Chihuahua lying in the parking lot.
Long night
Weloth is a huge animal lover. He couldn’t stand the sight of the helpless dog, so he decided to wrap the dog inside a thick crimson blanket while he thought of a plan to help him.
Since there were no awake animal control officers in the area, Weloth called a nearby police officer, who immediately came to help. The two men tried petting the stray, but the dog feared any form of human interaction.
Weloth decided he’d keep the dog for the evening to be sure of the dog’s safety. The following day, he transported the dog to the Norfolk Massachusetts Animal Control and Shelter, where the staff renamed him Skippy.
Better life
Skippy’s back leg was entirely broken due to the maltreatment he experienced with his past owners. As a result, the vets announced they needed to amputate his back leg. The canine’s surgery was a success, but the dog had difficulty adjusting at first.
Over time, Skippy became more outgoing by playing with the other shelter dogs. The tiny guy loved going outside and spending his days under the sun.
Skippy won over everyone at the shelter, especially the vets. The staff was confident that he’d have no trouble finding a permanent home once he was put up for adoption. The tiny pup had to fully recover before getting into the loving home he deserved.
The Randolph Police Department posted Skippy’s whole journey on their Facebook page since they wanted to shed light on the situation. The shelter facility staff also advised everyone that if they can’t take proper care of their pet, they should call their local shelter or rescue sanctuary for advice.
