Buddy was around 10 years old when his owner decided that the dog was too much trouble for him. The senior pooch was brought to a vet, and the owner requested to have the dog euthanized. The owner said that his pet had developed behavioral problems and couldn’t handle him anymore.
But the vet saw that the dog could still have a bright future. He could be retrained and rehomed. It wasn’t too late for him yet.
Buddy could still be a beloved part of a happy family. The vet recommended to the owner that he could surrender his pet to a shelter instead.
Fortunately, the man agreed.
No interest
Buddy was taken to Brent Knoll Animal Centre in Somerset, England. They operate a shelter as part of the RSPCA. Devoted staff members and volunteers wholeheartedly welcomed the dog and felt sorry for him after learning his story. Like the vet, they could see that the senior pooch has potential.
Day in and day out, shelter workers and volunteers worked with Buddy. They regularly trained him to remove his problematic traits. He has shown many improvements, which made him available for adoption. Sadly, not one person was interested in the sweet pooch.
Buddy has spent more than 500 days in the shelter and is longing for a forever home.
Still waiting
According to the shelter director, Buddy needs a special home and patient owners. They must have a lot of time in their hands to spend it with the dog and make him feel loved and welcome. Preferably, it should be a home with no other pets.
The shelter is not giving up, though. They will continue to care for and train Buddy. They will also use all their network and efforts to find him his perfect family. Senior dogs like Buddy deserve a second chance.
