Concerned residents of a community in L.A. noticed two small homeless dogs wandering around. They realized the urgent need to help the animals, given how matted they looked. Immediately, they messaged Hope For Paws, the renowned rescue group in the city.
Eldad and Loreta, two of the lead rescuers of the said group, quickly drove to the neighborhood to secure the animals. Eldad spotted the two dogs right away and noted how one of them looked like it was missing a hind leg.
The rescuers knew they needed to get the animals off the busy street and into a smaller enclosed space. They asked for permission from one of the residents to use their yard. Fortunately, a homeowner agreed and even offered his help in securing the dogs.
Loreta lured the animals into the yard by offering them bits of a cheeseburger. She noticed that the dogs trusted her more than Eldad, so she attracted the animals’ attention more while her rescue partner stepped aside. Once Loreta successfully got the pair into the enclosed space, Eldad quickly closed the entrance and secured any escape route.
The rescuers patiently worked on gaining the dogs’ trust. Loreta expertly looped in a Lucky Leash on the smaller dog while it was distracted by food. The injured animal resisted the leash a little more, but after seeing that his buddy was ok with it, he also let Eldad put one on him.
Eldad and Loreta thanked everyone for their help before taking the dogs to CARES, a renowned veterinary facility in the city. They ensured the injured dog got the urgent medical assistance it needed. They also wanted to made sure his smaller buddy was in good health.
The doctors at CARES cleared the smaller dog, now named Lawrence, once his checkup was complete. The injured animal, now named Hudson, unfortunately, needed a leg amputation. Dr. Pedraza of CARES expertly completed the surgery and ensured Hudson will have a complete recovery.
Lawrence and Hudson continued to their foster home with the charitable group Foxy and the Hounds. They thrived under the care of their foster family and they found their forever homes in no time. Today, they live happily with their new families.
