Commuters on Sydney trains last Thursday had a morning they won’t forget anytime soon after a tiny spoodle went on an adventure along the city’s train tracks, disrupting services for hours during the morning peak travel period.
Around 8:30 in the morning, a lively golden dog named Heidi managed to break free from its owner.

The escape captured the attention of onlookers at Wollstonecraft station, with many onlookers managing to record the escape on camera.
As a result of the now-free Heidi, operations on the T1 North Shore and Western Line experienced lengthy delays, with Sydney Trains promptly issuing a notice for commuters to allocate “extra travel time due to the presence of animals in the rail corridor”.
After running from the northern suburbs of Sydney, the spoodle continued on its adventure by running across the entire Sydney Harbour Bridge and into Sydney’s CBD.
It then decided to run back across the bridge, and ran along the same path before finally being caught by emergency services near the Waverton train station.

Rescuing Heidi
With the help of several train operators, Fire and Rescue New South Wales finally managed to catch the carefree pup, who managed to escape the morning peak hour commute unscathed.
Heidi’s owner expressed her gratitude to Sydney Trains and the emergency services who managed to free Heidi and to take them home.

“I also want to apologise to everyone who was held up by this incident,” Heidi’s owner added. “She’s 10 years old so I was expecting her to be slowing down by now. But no, she’s still full of energy.”
“She ran the equivalent of my daily commute in just an hour.”
Sydney Trains was also surprised by just how long Heidi’s morning adventure was.
“We’re happy to announce that Heidi is now safe at home after an 8km expedition on Sydney’s North Shore Line,” they said.
“After a quick game of fetch, Heidi was safely rescued so that the trains could resume. We thank everyone for their patience during this rescue.”
