Why are chocolates bad for dogs?
Cocoa, the main ingredient that makes up chocolate, contains ‘theobromine’, a compound that can elevate a dog’s heart rate and pose a potentially life-threatening risk.
Therefore it’s important to get your dog to a vet as soon as possible after they’ve ingested chocolate, or any other products that might’ve contained cocoa.
Another veterinarian pointed out that “gum or anything with xylitol” can be dangerous for dogs if ingested. If you’re not sure what Xylitol is, it is a toxic sweetener that can lead to blood clotting and, in severe cases, liver failure.
