Matt Johnson and his wife, Coreen Johnson, are both U.S. Navy sailors that were stationed in the Middle East. The couple has always been passionate and dedicated dog lovers and has done their fair share of helping pups in need. This is why they never hesitated to help two dogs, found on separate occasions, who led miserable lives.
Ruby and Sunny
The first dog they saved was a tiny pup that was being used as a bait dog. They saw her peeking through a hole in a rusted metal gate. She bore the telltale signs of abuse and neglect. The poor pup was malnourished and covered with bite wounds.
The couple’s heart was broken, they knew they couldn’t leave her behind, so they went to the dog’s owner and talked to him. An offer of ten dollars convinced the owner to turn the dog over to the sailors. They named her Ruby.
The second dog they rescued was an abandoned pooch that Coreen found lying on the side of the road. With just one look, she knew that the dog would not last long. The pup was covered with burns and old injuries. There was no way the young lady could leave him there.
So she scooped him up and took the dog home. Matt agreed immediately to adopt the pooch. They named him Sunny.
Family of four
The two dogs quickly grew healthier and happier. The navy couple adored both of them and showered their new pets with love. In no time at all, they were a perfect family of four. But then, a new deployment threatened to break them up.
Matt and Coreen were to be deployed to Japan, and they didn’t have enough time to process the papers of their pets. There was a great possibility that the dogs would be left behind.
Thankfully, they discovered a charity group that helps service personnel reunite with animals rescued from war-torn regions. They took the two dogs and took care of all the papers and transportation needs. In just a few weeks after Matt and Coreen were deployed to Japan, their beloved pets joined them.
