Most senior rescue dogs often suffer from one or two medical conditions. These dogs don’t often get adopted because of their age and diminishing health and they are usually placed on the euthanasia list. However, these dogs still have so much love to give and can still make someone happy.
A dog named Hailey is a senior rescue dog that came into the ASPCA shelter. She had numerous medical conditions, which required treatment and surgery. The ASPCA needed a loving foster for Hailey to give her the best care so she could recover.
Eventually, the ASPCA found a volunteer named Barrie who was interested in taking in Hailey as a foster. When Barrie found out about Hailey, Hailey already had two lumpectomies and had been treated for kidney disease.
Barrie didn’t have any experience fostering dogs before but she was willing to give it a try. She figured that Hailey would be a great start for her work as a volunteer foster for the ASPCA.
Although Hailey had trust issues, she quickly warmed up to Barrie soon after she moved in with her. Hailey became a completely different dog and is now very trusting, thanks to the love that Barrie showed her.
It didn’t take long for Barrie and Hailey to bond. When Hailey was at the animal hospital for another surgery, Barrie realized that she felt so lonely coming home to an empty house. She realized that she could never let Hailey go and decided to give her a permanent home.
Now, Hailey is a lot more confident and energetic than she ever was. She’s continuing to learn new things every day and her renewed energy never ceases to amaze Barrie. Hailey is proof of what a little love can do to help a dog in need. Here’s a video featuring Hailey’s story and how she transformed after getting adopted by Barrie.
