Eva, the heroic dog that managed to rescue her owner from a cougar attack has unfortunately passed away.
Eva, the Belgian Shepherd who defended her owner from a mountain lion in California a couple of weeks ago has tragically passed away after her condition suddenly deteriorated.
Eva’s owner, Erin Wilson, announced on Instagram that her heroic saviour Eva passed away last Thursday. Eva was rushed to the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine after she started to pant uncontrollably.
Her condition drastically deteriorated soon after arriving at the vet, and she began to experience seizures. She slipped into a coma shortly after.

On Instagram, Wilson said that she said her final goodbye at 9:20 yesterday morning as Eva’s condition didn’t improve overnight.
Wilson has been posting tributes of her sweet girl on Instagram. She revealed she got Eva at the end of March 2020, soon after the pandemic started.
Wilson said that Eva loved to cuddle and was obsessed with rocks. Their favourite game was to find the biggest rock that Eva can move.
“She had incredibly strong shoulders, and she would just drag rocks around backwards,” Wilson says.

Eva Fights Off A Mountain Lion
Eva was badly hurt when she fought off a mountain lion that attacked Wilson on May 16. The pair were taking a casual stroll near the Trinity River in northern California, when the attack happened.
The wild cat jumped out from its hiding place and managed to scratch Wilson’s shoulder. Wilson called out to Eva, who was walking in front of Wilson. Eva leapt to Wilson’s defence despite being heavily outweighed.
While Eva put up a good fight, she was quickly outclassed by her heavier opponent. The mountain lion bit Eva’s head and wouldn’t let go. Not even after Wilson started hitting the wild cat with sticks and rocks.

As the mountain lion would not release Eva from her grasp, Wilson rushed down to her car to retrieve her tire iron. Wilson also managed to grab the attention of a passing car to assist her.
The passing driver, Sharon Houston, grabbed a PVC pipe and her pepper spray and they both rushed back to free Eva. By the time they returned, the mountain lion had dragged Eva off the trail to a different spot.
Together, the pair used their tools to beat up the cougar. Sharon sprayed the mountain lion with her pepper spray and the animal finally fled.
Eva was rushed to the vet. Upon examination, Eva had suffered two skull fractures as well as damage to her left eye and sinus cavity.

“Goodbye my beautiful sweet girl. You are my world, my light, my best friend.”
Mountain lion attacks are quite rare. But when an attack does occur, the culprit animal is usually trapped and killed.
