Aimee, Emily, and Hayley are three Americans living in China. They all have a special mission. Together, they founded Slaughterhouse Survivors, a nonprofit group dedicated to saving dogs from the Chinese meat trade.
They started by rescuing one dog from the slaughterhouse, and from then on, they never stopped. For the next three years, they have rescued numerous helpless pups and have found homes for them from all over the globe.
One of them is a small black pup that was eventually named Pearl.
Medicated baths
The tiny pooch was in a terrible condition when she was brought to their care. Not only was she suffering from a severe skin condition, but she was also missing one of her front paws. The injury was already healed when the small dog arrived, and nobody knew how the damage occurred.
The three ladies, along with their volunteers, took very good care of Pearl. She was given a lot of medicated baths and medications. Slowly, her skin got better, and she became more open to human interaction. After two months, her fur grew back, and she was healthy enough to be adopted.
While she was recuperating, the rescue group was also busy preparing her documents and looking for a family to adopt her. But in the meantime, she was sent to stay at a foster home in California.
From the West Coast to the East
It really didn’t take long for someone to open their home to Pearl permanently. A veterinarian from New York fell in love with her and felt bad about her past. Another rescue group offered to transport her coast to coast. She had already flown across the Pacific Ocean, driving across the country would be a cinch.
Once she was in her new mom’s arms, everything just felt right. The kind vet promised to take care of her and give Pearl the life that she deserves.
