Do dogs deserve to fly in luxury instead of being stuck in their carrier bag? Well if your answer is yes, then you’re in luck thanks to the newest airline – BARK Air!
In April, BARK, a company known for its dog food and toys, unveiled BARK Air, a revolutionary aviation experience designed for dogs. BARK Air will allow pets to travel alongside their owners in the aircraft cabin as their plus ones, eliminating the need for crates in the cargo hold.
Sold Out Already
According to the company’s booking website, the airline’s inaugural flight from New York to Los Angeles this Thursday is already sold out despite the hefty price.
A single one way trip from New York to Los Angeles in June will set you back a whopping $6,000, while a flight from New York to London is $8,000. However, each ticket covers both a dog and its human at least. The airline is also planning on expanding the service and offer additional routes in the future such as Paris, Chicago, and Florida.
BARK uses a fleet of Gulfstream G5 jets for the flights, which can seat up to 15 dogs and their accompanying humans. However, they will only sell 10 tickets per flight to ensure that there is enough space for all passengers. Interestingly, BARK Air doesn’t actually own or operate the aircrafts as they are a public charter operator.
A public charter operator acts as an intermediary between a passenger and the aircraft operator. In other words, BARK pays the aircraft owner to operate the flights and sell seats on board the chartered aircraft to you.
Dogs First Class, Humans Business Class
According to BARK’s CEO and cofounder Matt Meeker, BARK Air’s primary focus is to make the dog happy.
“First class for the dog and business class for the human,” Meeker said.
During the flight, the pups will have the opportunity to socialize with one another. There’s also plenty of treats, noise cancelling earmuffs, soothing music, and scented towels on board to take your dog’s flying experience to the next level.
There’s plenty of beverages for your pups too, including barkaccinos (cups of whipped cream) and doggie Champagne (chicken broth).
Don’t worry, there’s plenty of food and beverage options for you too! But remember, BARK Air is really meant to make air travel more luxurious and less stressful for your dogs, so be prepared to take a back seat for this flight.
If you’ve ever travelled with your dog anywhere, you’d know that travelling with a pet isn’t easy. (Here are some tips to make travelling with your dog less stressful.) But BARK Air aims to make the process easier, less stressful, and a little bit more luxurious. And in our opinion, that’s the better way to travel.
