A dog has endured a terrifying 24 hour ordeal on a tabletop in a home during a flood but managed to escape unharmed.
It would have been a very confusing and frightening 24 hours for a Staffordshire Bull Terrier named Missy.
The Staffy was left behind after her owner Ali Ulfet left her behind at their Maribyrnong home at 6am last Friday, thinking they would have time to go back and retrieve her..

But the floodwaters from the overflowing Maribyrnong river rose faster than the locals had anticipated, leaving the town inundated with little warning for the local residents.
Missy’s owner Ulfet became stranded just a few streets away from his home, unable to retrieve his treasured pooch.
Missy leapt onto the tabletop in order to escape the floodwaters. In doing so, she inadvertently trapped herself on the table.
Ulfet said the water was so high that it would’ve reached Missy’s paws while she stayed on top of the table.
“We came back as soon as it was safe to do so,” Ulfet said. “Luckily she managed to find a high place to rest and is okay.”
While the house and the contents inside have been severely damaged by the flood’s, Ulfet’s is just glad that Missy is okay.
“It’s more damage than we were expecting to be honest,” Ulfet said. “The last time it flooded here the water only reached our ankles. It’s much, much higher this time.”
“It’s kind of overwhelming actually,” he said. “Just looking at our stuff covered in all the sediment and dirt left behind.
“It gives you a sense of how fast the water was flowing at that time. Just imagine how powerful the water was to carry that much sediment and leave it behind.”
Ulfet now has the momentous task of cleaning up as floodwaters recede. But at least he has his favourite pooch by his side.
