The immense beauty of a massive hammerhead shark was a sight to behold for 32 special travellers on a tour boat in the Bahamas. However, what happened next caught them totally by surprise.
A dog on a nearby dock jumped into the water to confront the four-metre long ocean predator.
Tourists in the boat, fearing for the dog, screamed and pleaded with the dog to turn back in the video uploaded to Twitter.
“Get out of the water!” “Stop going after it!” “Oh my God!” they could be heard saying.
However, the dog chose to ignore their pleas and paddled after the four metre long shark.
The two animals circled each other intensely, in clear, pristine water off the coast of a private island in the southern Bahamas.
Thankfully, after a while, the shark slowly swam away, much to the delight and relief of the onlookers.
“That shark wasn’t going to mess with him,” a man could be heard saying.
The shark had appeared from under the tour boat in the southern Bahamas. The tour was operated by Exuma Water Sports.
Rebecca Lightbourn, Exuma Water Sports’ reservations manager, said that the black-and-tan dog would always run along the shore and greet the boat every time it passed that island. However, it was the first time that they had seen the dog diving in.
“I guess the dog dived into the water because he decided he wanted to protect his territory, or he just wanted to play with a really big fish in the water,” Lightbourn said.
