A dog that helped Polish rescuers save victims in the recent Turkey earthquakes has returned home to receive treatment.
Orion, a four-year-old golden retriever, worked alongside the Polish HUSAR rescue team that arrived in Turkey less than a day after the first earthquake hit the country.
More than 44,000 people are confirmed to have died across southern Turkey and northern Syria after a series of earthquakes and aftershocks rocked the region earlier this month, causing widespread damage.

The HUSAR team was made up of 76 firefighters and eight dogs. They returned home last week after helping in the rescue effort.
Once Orion returned home, he was examined by veterinarians at the Wroclaw University of Environmental and Life Sciences. He is now undergoing treatment for an injured paw and fatigue.
Veterinarian Maciej Grzegory said Orion is in a weakened state and has lost a lot of weight.

“He is weak and has wounded his paw. He’s been working tirelessly for a couple of days now. But we’ll make sure to take care of him and ensure he returns to full form,” said Grzegory.
He’s a Hero
Orion’s handler, Captain Albert Kościński, spoke highly of the role Orion played in helping their rescuers locate and rescue trapped people.
“We were working from morning to evening, for a week, in a difficult environment. But almost every single time Orion indicated the possibility of someone still alive under the rubble, the rescuers would pull people out,” Kościński said.
