The moment a Labrador Retriever chased off a coyote who attacked his Boston Terrier brother was captured on video. The coyote managed to grab the Terrier’s neck and dragged the poor dog around in the backyard.
The attack happened in Melissa and Freddy Patriarcha’s backyard in Huntington Beach, California. The family’s surveillance camera captured the entire incident.
The coyote got into Patriarcha’ home by jumping over a six foot wall and headed towards Patriarchas’ dogs. The animal managed to grab Sadie, the Boston Terrier, by the neck and proceeded to drag it around the yard.
His older sibling, a much larger Labrador Retriever called Cody, rushed out to save his brother. Cody managed to scare off the coyote, who jumped back over the fence.

Melissa was in the kitchen when she heard Sadie scream out in pain and immediately went outside to check on her. Initially, Melissa thought that a rat had bitten Sadie. But then she saw the shocking scenes on her surveillance video.
Rising Number of Coyotes
Melissa Patriarcha says that there’s been an explosion of coyote activity recently. She’s calling for the local council to take action against the rise in the number of wild animal encounters in the neighbourhood.
“In the past year, I’ll be dropping my kids off at the school and I’ll see a coyote right in front of the school,” she says. “And that can be really scary”.

The local council said it’s common for Huntington Beach residents to get the occasional visit from wildlife. They are advising owners against leaving their pets outside as the pets can easily become a coyote’s prey. Additionally, they also recommend against leaving pet food outside as they will attract other animals to their backyard and can lure coyotes into their yards.
Other recommendations from officials include keeping pet food indoors at night, removing fruit that has fallen to the ground, and keeping one’s yard tidy to prevent any potential hiding spots for coyotes.
This isn’t the first coyote attack in Huntington Beach this year. A two-year-old girl was seriously injured by a coyote attack at the Huntington Beach pier back in April.
The local authorities managed to track down the coyote that attacked the girl next morning. They euthanized the animal to prevent the animal from attacking other humans.
