Sick and disabled stray dogs were brought to kill shelters instead of getting the chance to recover. Evie the German Shepherd almost didn’t make it, but a kind woman came and changed her life.
Meeting Evie
Evie was a homeless German shepherd that got found by a civilian. Animal control rescued the dog and brought her to a high kill shelter.
The dog spent a few weeks in the shelter before a local shelter in Los Angeles heard about her. Evie was so malnourished and wasn’t allowed out of her cage. As time passed, the dog became depressed.
A local shelter in LA contacted the people in charge of euthanizing dogs. Just a few days before Evie was scheduled to be put down, the kill shelter approved Evie’s reassignment.
A team of volunteers at the shelter went and picked Evie up. They took her to a vet to get examined and found out that other than being malnourished, Evie was in good shape to be fostered.
Journey to forever home
Evie stayed in the shelter for a few days before Maria, a volunteer at the shelter, offered to foster her. Maria took Evie to her house the same day where she introduced Evie to her dog, Tuna.
During the first few days, Evie was cautious of her actions. All she would do was sleep in the corner of the room. Tuna was very patient and gentle with Evie. It didn’t take long before Evie felt comfortable in her new foster home.
Thanks to Tuna, Evie blossomed into a playful and affectionate dog. Evie quickly formed a bond with Maria, and the two did everything together.
After a few weeks, Maria decided that Evie was ready to find her forever home. However, she also realized she didn’t want to let go of her. Instead, she officially adopted Evie.
