A couple of years after her dog went missing, Aisha Nieves went looking for a new dog at the shelter. It was there that she came upon something unbelievable – it was her missing dog Kovu!
Nieves is from Allentown, Pennsylvania and she had adopted Kovu as a pup from the Lehigh County Humane Society. She reported that, unfortunately, Kovu escaped from the backyard when a car had slammed into the fence and broke it.
Nieves kept searching for her missing dog but came back empty-handed every time. What’s worse is that, according to 6abc Philadelphia, only a few weeks after the incident, she learned that Kovu had been picked up by a shelter and was adopted by another family.
She spoke to the shelter and learned that she couldn’t get him back since the adoption had already been set in stone and finalized.
A few years passed and Nieves thought of getting a new dog for her and her two sons. She went to a website and browsed through all of the adoptable dogs when one dog caught her eye. It was a tan rottweiler pitbull mix that looked exactly like Kovu.
After a closer examination, she knew that it really was Kovu! Nieves said that she first thought that it couldn’t be him. Then she saw the little scar that Kovu received after getting caught on a gate, and she knew then and there that it really was him.
Nieves immediately called the shelter and said that she was coming to get her dog.
The shelter had apparently found Kovu in a pretty serious condition with bad inflammation, missing hair, and fleas. After getting treated, he was adopted by a family in October 2019. He was then recently returned since his new family didn’t want him anymore.
It all worked out because his previous family surrendered Kovu to the shelter, where Nieves was able to adopt him once as again as her own and bring him back home.
