On her recent journey from Japan to Brisbane, Australia, passenger Sarah Jeanette had a lengthy layover in the city of Cairns.
While most people prefer to fly directly to their destination (including Jeanette), the layover in Cairns soon became a highlight of her trip.
As Jeanette sat inside Cairn’s airport terminal waiting for her connecting flight, she spotted something out of the corner of her eye.
Just outside the airport’s window was a police canine and his handler, apparently taking a break from their regular duties.
That was when Jeanette realised she was getting a rare insight on what a police canine does on their breaks.
And what the police dog and his handler were doing was simply adorable.

“They’d been playing for a while. I thought it was really cute so I decided to record their playtime,” Jeanette said. “I’m a huge fan of dogs, so witnessing that playful moment made the layover somewhat worth it.”
“It is something that I won’t soon forget.”
Cairns airport, like most airports in Australia and around the world, employs several dogs that are trained to sniff out prohibited items from entering Australia such as food, explosives, and drugs.
It’s an important task to ensure the safety of Australian citizens and the native flora and fauna.

But thankfully, it’s not a duty that prevents the dogs from having fun too.
