A veterinarian on TikTok has come out with a controversial list of the five dog breeds that she would never own. Included in the list are family-favourite pugs and Goldendoodles.
Dr Whitney Terrell has stirred up a heated debate after she shared a list of her least favourite dog breeds in a TikTok video. The veterinarian from the US shared five dog breeds that she would never own as a veterinarian. However, she is clear to emphasise that the list was based on her own personal opinion only and it’s ‘just for fun’.
Least favourite dog breeds.
Her least favourite dog is a household favourite – the Goldendoodle. Sometimes referred to as the Groodle, it is a cross between a poodle and a golden retriever.
Dr Terrell said she will never own a Goldendoodle as they are ‘crazy hyper’
Her justification was that a lot of Goldendoodles are crazy hyper and cannot sit still for more than two seconds. While some Goldendoodles are sweet, she’s also encountered some extremely aggressive ones as well.
“They kind of squirrely,” Dr Terrell said. “They’re just too high maintenance for me. Ear infections out the wazoo and expensive grooming, just not for me.”
Another one on the list is Chihuahuas.
“They’re ankle-biters,” she said. “Some are super sweet, but I’m afraid that I’m going to step on them. And they will most likely bite me if I had a chihuahua.”
Second on the list are Chihuahuas due to their habit of biting ankles.

Dr Terrell isn’t a fan of hairless dogs, including Chinese Crested dogs.
“They are fine, but I just don’t like hairless animals in general,” she said. “It’s the same with cats, hairless animals just feel like a ball sack.”

Brachycephalic dogs are also on the list. Brachycephalic dogs are breeds of dogs with shortened snouts such as pugs, bulldogs, and terriers.

And the reason for brachycephalic dogs being on the list is simple. They literally can’t breathe. Brachycephalic dogs are almost certainly going to develop breathing problems in their life. Thus they tend to die younger, with 30% shorter average lifespan than non-Brachycephalic dogs.
“While some of them are really cute and really sweet, they literally can’t breathe. And they snore. My husband snores, so I don’t need another thing that snores.”
“Additionally, they have a high risk of getting dermatitis and allergies. Not to mention they’re also smelly and gassy. So it’s going to be a no from me.”
Last dog breed she would never own.
Rounding off the list are members of the ‘Herding Group’. This includes breeds such as Shepherds, Corgis, and Sheepdogs.
Lastly, Dr Terrell would never own a member from the ‘Herding Group’, including Shepherds [pictured].
”While they have the potential to be really good police dogs and great dogs in general, 95% of the ones I’ve encountered at the clinics will try to bite your face off due to their lack of training,” she says.
“I wouldn’t want to own one as I don’t have enough time to properly train them.”
Dr Terrell advises potential owners who wish to get a Herding breed to have a long, hard think about whether the dog will suit their lifestyle.
“They need lots of attention and training, and most people don’t have the time for either,” Dr Terrell explained.
However, Dr Terrell is a fan of Golden Retrievers, Great Pyrenees [pictured], and Basset Hounds
Dr Terrell’s video has already gathered more than 9 million views, with many viewers surprised at her list. However, she followed up with a list of her top five favourite dog breeds, including Golden Retrievers, Great Pyrenees, and Basset hounds.

I have a Bassett Hound !! Love her dearly ! Very well behaved and loving , However , she has had terrible ear infections , I was told that just comes with the breed. Also , she’s great with kids and other dogs !
