Olympus was already frail when his owner dropped him off at a shelter. The facility’s cameras caught the heartless owner carrying the emaciated pit bull out of his car then just dumped him on the concrete walkway outside Richmond Animal Care and Control shelter. He was so weak that the dog could barely move to chase the car when his owner drove off.
He was abandoned at around two in the morning, and he spent the next seven hours in the extreme cold waiting for someone to rescue him. When someone finally did see him, Olympus was barely breathing.
Freezing dog
Christie Chipps Peters, the Richmond Animal Care and Control shelter director, was on her way to work when she saw the poor pooch lying just outside her office window. She quickly went out of her car and carried the dog inside her vehicle. Even with the car’s heater going full blast, the pup continued to shiver.
Christie rushed Olympus to an animal clinic, and an emergency medical team quickly sprang into action. The dog’s temperature wouldn’t even register on their thermometer. They placed an IV on the dog and worked fast to stabilize his condition. Thankfully, the vets were able to save the pup’s life.
The dog’s body warmed up, and his blood pressure increased. The first 24 hours were critical, and Olympus survived it.
A long road to recovery
The dog’s health is now stable, but he still has a long journey to full recovery. Olympus was released by the hospital and is now under the care of the shelter. He will be put up for adoption once he is healthy enough.
As for his owner, the authorities are already doing an investigation. The footage caught from the shelter’s surveillance cameras will go a long way in helping the dog get justice.
