Anakin was found as a stray dog roaming the streets of Nevada. He was already around 12 years old when a nonprofit charity organization named The Animal Foundation took him in. The pit bull was relatively healthy despite being homeless, weighing approximately 65 pounds – perfect for his size and breed.
The rescue group gave Anakin a space in their facility and even had him neutered. Once the vet cleared him, the sweet pooch was placed in their “foster to adopt” program. They soon found him a family, and they thought that the senior pooch finally found his happy ending.
They were very wrong.
A hellish nightmare
Several months after he got adopted, another nonprofit organization in Nevada found Anakin in a junkyard. Rescuers from the Vegas Pet Rescue Project took him in. At that time, Anakin was all skin and bones and was done to half of his original weight. The pit bull was so malnourished that he could barely walk.
The senior dog was rushed to an animal hospital, and vets did several diagnostic tests to understand his condition fully. When they saw his x-ray results, the medical team was stunned to see that his stomach was filled with rocks. His teeth were also worn down because of it. The vets concluded that he most likely hadn’t had anything to eat for weeks for the dog to ingest rocks.
Another chance
Thankfully, the vets said that the dog wouldn’t require surgery. Anakin could pass the rocks normally. The poor pooch was then put on a strict diet so that his system wouldn’t get shocked. And Slowly, he started putting on weight.
The two rescue groups who took Anakin in are now working to investigate what happened. They have not been able to get in touch with the people who adopted him. Hopefully, they could get justice for the senior pooch.
Anakin will stay with Vegas Pet Rescue Project until he has fully recovered. They are still optimistic that the dog will get another chance to find a suitable home.
