Pepe, a black crow, loves going out for a stroll with his favorite German Shepherd doggy friend, Xena. Xena’s human mom, Joanna, shared that Pepe was always curious whenever he saw Xena sniffing something because he would always run up to see what was making her interested. Pepe would always stand right next to the spot that Xena was smelling, giving off a look as if asking her what it was that they were looking at while tilting his little head in confusion.
Joanna shared that there is also a little bit of a sibling rivalry between the two because he wants whatever it was that Xena has. She recalled that Pepe would run up to Xena whenever she played with a toy and grab the other end of it as if they were playing a tug-of-war game.
Joanna said that never in her life did she imagine that her dog would be friends with a wild crow. She recalled that Pepe came into their lives when she and her husband were wandering in the park with Xena and saw him falling off a 100-foot tree.
Joanna shared that she and her husband recorded Pepe’s squawks and played them on speakers, hoping that his mama would come to him. However, Pepe’s mom never came for him, so they decided to bring him home and only interacted with him when it was feeding time.
Pepe and Xena spent a lot of time together, which gradually made them the best of friends. Pepe eventually learned how to fly after months of training him how to do it, and he also made friends with other wild crows. Joanna shared that Pepe visited them less when he had friends, but he would always hang out with Xena whenever he did.
