An overly eager dog had to be given emergency surgery after she hurled herself through a glass door in order to greet a delivery driver.
When the doorbell rang in the Sissman household, Luna the cockapoo decided that the only way to greet the pizza delivery driver was by hurling herself through the door. As you might’ve guessed, it wasn’t the best decision. The failed stunt left Luna with cuts all over her body, and glass pieces all over the floor.
Luna was quickly taken to the local pet emergency hospital in Hemel Hempstead by her shocked owner Debbie. Amazingly, despite being covered with cuts, bruises and a lot of blood, Luna made a quick recovery after the treatment.
Even Debbie was shocked at both the actions of Luna, as well as the injuries that Luna sustained. The accident could have been more serious, she said.
Luna and her owners only moved into the house only a couple of weeks ago. Upon moving in, Debbie had some concerns about the small single glazed glass panel at the bottom of her entry door but had been unable to replace it due to the lockdown. Although Debbie had always known about Luna’s oer-excited personality, she never imagined that Luna would do something like this.
A Brief Moment Of Over “Excitedness”
Debbie had just ordered Pizza to celebrate her husband Adam’s birthday. When the delivery driver rang the doorbell, Luna bolted to the door, taking out the window pane in the process. Both the delivery driver and Luna stood there frozen to the spot, unsure of what just happened and what to do next.
Debbie and Adam did their best to try and remove most of the glass pieces from Luna, but her long fur made the task very difficult. As their regular vet was closed for the weekend, Debbie had to take Luna to the emergency department of Vets Now, located in Hemel Hempstead. Vets Now is a UK-wide veterinarian chain with more than 60 clinics and hospitals open every day for pet emergencies.
The team at Vets Now quickly assessed Luna’s condition as they were concerned that there might have been more injuries to Luna than meets the eye. The first concern for the team was for concussion as Luna had collided with the window headfirst. Thankfully, Luna did not have concussion as she was very responsive and aware throughout the assessment.
The team then clipped back her fur to better assess the damages to Luna. After giving Luna some antibiotics and painkillers, the team thoroughly cleaned and disinfected the massive wound on Luna’s legs before applying some skin staples to close the wound. The team were pleasantly surprised at how brave Luna was throughout the process, calmly eating the treats given to her throughout her surgery.
After a final check, Luna was given the all clear and Debbie was ecstatic. She is ensuring that an event like this will never happen again by replacing all the doors on the property. It was a very scary situation that she does not want to happen again. Thankfully, Luna made a quick and speedy recovery.
