A German Shepherd mix named Sadie is among Dogwood Animal Rescue’s most resilient rescue canines. The poor dog was shot, dumped in a trash bag, and broken legs. Thanks to fate, she was discovered just in time.
Finally free
At the Tulare County orchard in California, a field worker saw something peculiar. He noticed a black trash bag rolling in the field and investigated.
Upon closer inspection, the worker found out there was a dog inside. He hurriedly freed the poor pup and watched her crawl towards the shade. Her back legs looked fractured, and she had two apparent bullet wounds.
Robin Reed Galvan, a neighbor who lived nearby with a heart for rescuing dogs, came to aid the canine. The heroes provided water and food then contacted Tulare County Animal Services to arrange the dog’s pick-up.
Santa Rosa-based Dogwood Animal Rescue heard about the incident then volunteered to take the dog. The organization named her Sadie, and they’ve updated their Facebook page with daily reports on her progress.
Time to heal
Sadie had three leg injuries due to gunshot wounds to the shoulder and limb. Because of this, she underwent major surgery. The vets did one leg each time, allowing the dog to avoid sedation for too long. Her treatment took about ten to twelve weeks.
According to Galvan, the story serves as an excellent message to always be mindful of your surroundings. Sadie wouldn’t have made it if no one had noticed the rolling trash bag. Always keep a keen eye out for animals in need because attentiveness may be able to rescue a life.
The Dogwood Animal Rescue is searching for donations to help sustain Sadie’s medical needs and take care of many other rescued dogs. Every contribution can make a significant difference in a rescue dog’s life.
