With a wild hairdo and a cheeky tongue out of his mouth, Mr Happy Face has been crowned this year’s world’s ugliest dog. His owner took home the winner’s prize of $1500 USD, or roughly $2,200 Australian dollars.
Mr Happy Face is a 17-year-old Chihuahua-Chinese crested mix. He was adopted as a rescue last year by Jeneda Benally, a 41-year-old musician from Arizona.
From the shelter where Mr Happy Face was adopted, the staff informed Benally about an older dog with health issues. The staff warned Benally about the dog’s appearance, preparing her for what she was about to come face-to-face with.
In fact, the staff said that he might be inbred as he was so ugly.
But the kind-hearted Benally saw a different side of him. What she saw was a creature that needed a second chance in life, and one that deserved to be loved.
Benally adopted Mr Happy Face during the pandemic. She had hoped to either adopt a dog or have a baby. She opted to adopt a dog.
The World’s Ugliest Dog Had A Difficult Life.
Benally found out that Mr Happy Face was abused and neglected in his previous life. He lived with a hoarder so the living conditions were atrocious. When the dog arrived at the vet, the vets only gave him a couple of weeks to live due to his poor condition.
Benally believes Mr Happy Face managed to outlive the dooming expectations because of love, kindness, and plenty of kisses. His favourite pastime activity is sleeping and making odd sounds when he’s happy according to Benally.
Dave Rupiper, a local veterinarian and one of the judges, described Mr Happy Face as a wonderful and adorable, yet ugly at the same time.
“I love his crooked head and his fearless body. He’s all pimply,” Rupiper said.
They’re all special and unique.
The runner-up of the event was a six-year-old Pekingese called Wild Thang. Its distinguishing feature is that it has more hair than body and also no teeth.
The world’s third ugliest dog went to Monkey, a 12-year-old Brussels Griffon.
Another competitor named Josie rocked a wild hairdo similar to Doc Brown from the Back to the Future franchise.
A total of ten dogs competed in the World’s Ugliest Dogs competition.
The event organisers said that, “all dogs, regardless of breed or size, have warmed our hearts and filled our lives with unconditional love”.
“This event is to celebrate just that – all the imperfections that make every single dog special and unique.”
While Mr Happy Face has been crowned the world’s ugliest dog, this dog made the Guinness World Records for her unique quirk!!!
