Maintenance workers are some of the most underappreciated individuals in our society. They are the reason why people in buildings, offices and institutions get their jobs done. They are tasked to keep the place running, fixing things like leaky taps, broken lights and everything else in the building.
A maintenance worker in Clayton County added another job to his to-do list: Rescue a dog.
When a homeowner called maintenance to get some work done in the house, the maintenance worker thought it was just another regular repair. But he was sickened to find a malnourished dog, looking nothing more than a skeleton, that he called the police. However, the police told him that he could not take the dog as that would be considered theft.
So the maintenance worker contacted animal control. Although notices were left on the owner’s door, the abuse continued. Some time later however, the worker finally got his chance to free the poor dog.
One day, he saw the same dog, left on the street in a small cage. He had been abandoned by his owner. The dog was still in a very poor condition. This was the chance the maintenance worker had been waiting for.
He picked up the cage and drove the dog to the closest animal hospital 90 minutes away.
The vet noticed the dog had burns to his paws in addition to his poor looking condition. Despite that however, the dog will probably survive thanks to the heroics of the maintenance worker. As the vet had no idea of what the dog’s name was, she named him after his rescuer – Mikey.
When Mikey arrived at the hospital, he only weighed about 10kgs, or about half of what he should’ve weighed.
Shortly after Mikey arrived at the animal hospital, four girls found out about his back story and even donated their allowances to help Mikey recover. They regularly visit the animal hospital to check up with him.
