Have you ever noticed that dogs tend to possess the same characteristics like their owners? For example, a friendly individual owns a dog who also happens to be very friendly? Or maybe a very aggressive individual with an equally aggressive dog?
Dogs are extremely perceptive to our persona. They are able to sense when there is tension in the house, or when humans are sad.
According to a new study published in the Public Library of Science Journal, this sensitivity can also lead our dogs to take on elements of our own personality.
Some dogs are very friendly with strangers, while some are not. While some pets are easily startled, others are unfazed. Some dogs want attention and cuddles 24/7, while others hate being touched.
The study of over 100 dogs and owners, found that owners who had the tendency to react in an anxious manner had pets with the same behaviour. A calmer owner on the other hand, had a more passive dog. The study showed that owners and dogs can influence each other’s stress coping mechanism.
The bond formed between a man and his dog is more than meets the eye. It is true synergy, a reflection of who you are. So in some ways, you’re actually dealing with yourself.
Oftentimes, we overlook the intelligence of animals. However, this study is proof of how our pets subtly adapt their ways to make our lives easier.
