After calling an animal shelter home for over 500 days, this dog is finally going to live like a dog once again.
Last week, we published a very sad article about Buddy, a dog who has spent over 500 days in an animal centre after vets refused to put him down. (You can read the article here).
But it seems like the dog’s prayers have been answered.
Buddy the terrier is in a new and caring home after spending over 18 months at RSPCA’s Brent Knoll Animal Centre in North Somerset, England. Buddy holds the record for the longest time a dog has spent in the care of the RSPCA’s Brent Knoll Centre.
Buddy’s original owner wanted to put him down due as they could no longer handle his behavioural problems. When the vets refused, the owner surrendered Buddy over to the vet. The vet then brought Buddy to the rescue centre for a second chance at finding a home.
Brent Knoll Centre’s deputy manager Katy Darelli said that “Buddy is a cute and affectionate chap who unfortunately had a less than ideal relationship with his previous owner”.
“Soon he began to retaliate, and the owners didn’t like it.” Thus, Buddy ended up at the rescue centre because the vets rejected the owner’s request for euthanasia.
It took a while to train the problematic behaviours out of Buddy. The team at the Brent Knoll Centre used positive reinforcement techniques and showered Buddy with love.
But despite all their efforts, Buddy remained at the rescue centre for over 500 days, hoping to be adopted into a home once again.
Finally, a New Home!
Finally, after 18 months at the centre, Buddy was recently adopted by a very happy couple. According to the RSPCA North Somerset Branch, Buddy is settling in very nicely and doing all the things a dog loves doing – playing catch and running around.
At long last, Buddy is finally at the place where all dogs should be – at home.
