A dog daycare center known as Camp Wagalot introduced its newest activity that caters to its furry clients. They now have a 41-foot-by-21-foot above-ground pool that dogs can use along with the usual daycare, boarding, and training that the camp offers. Jennifer Andrews, the owner of Camp Wagalot, started her business after realizing that all she wanted to do in life was to spend her day with dogs.
The pool was designed as a site to teach dogs how to belly flop and splash everybody or formally known as dog diving.
Dog diving is actually an official sport that debuted as a competition at the Incredible Dog Challenge hosted by the dog food manufacturer Purina. One organization called the North America Diving Dogs even has its own Hall of Fame for dog diving and also holds other events sanctioned by the American Kennel Club.
Camp Wagalot’s very own diving star is the two-year-old Golden Retriever named Susan who can jump off a total of 13 feet. And she loved doing it with her canine buddies, Bubba and Capri. But aside from competitive dog diving, Camp Wagalot’s pool is also made for entertainment and exercise.
Dogs are taught to swim around for a little and let them enjoy the pool according to their own pace. And as they get more confident they are allowed to explore more but as a safety precautionary measure, they are fitted with life preservers. Swimming is not only recreational for dogs but also a good workout for them. A ten-minute swim is already equal to hours of playtime and it’s very good for the dogs’ joints.
The Camp also holds some exhibition events to showcase some of the talent developed by dogs. They also plan to have a competitive team for those who want to participate.
