Eldad Hagar, Loreta Frankonyte, Katie McKittrick, and JoAnn Wiltz, volunteers from the animal rescue group known as Hope For Paws, were out saving a badly injured skunk when they received a text message about a Chihuahua that was abandoned in an industrial area. Once they completed the mission, Katie rushed the animal to the hospital while the rest of them continued to the other site.
The workers at the industrial area said the little dog loved food so the rescuers brought out some cheeseburgers for it. Meanwhile, Loreta checked the surrounding area and found a doggy stroller, some dog food, and a doggy toothpaste discarded in the trash. The things were a giveaway that the pup once had an owner, who eventually gave up on it.
Shortly after the rescuers arrived, the dog showed up. She was cynical at first but she found the courage to say hi to Loreta and JoAnn. She wanted to know if she could trust the people in front of her, so she examined them and sniffed them.
JoAnn and Loreta took their time gaining the dog’s trust. They gave her food and gentle pats on the head. They considered using a net to secure her, but as it turned out, they didn’t have to use any form of traps.
Once JoAnn found the perfect opportunity, she picked up the dog and carried it in her arms. And then, Loreta placed the Lucky Leash on its neck. They were ecstatic that they secured the dog without a fuss and agreed to name it Shania.
From the lumber yard, the entire crew went straight to the veterinary care center to get Shania checked. JoAnn and Loreta also gave the dog a much-needed bath to get rid of the dirt on its body.
Shania was pretty filthy, weak, and sad, and she had multiple mammary tumors. She had a rough time after her surgery and required a lengthy amount of time to recover. But thanks to her experienced foster mom, she slowly got better and even got over her dark past.
With L.A. Animal Rescue’s help, Shania didn’t have to wait much longer. She soon joined her forever family and started a new life with them.
