Because of the colder weather last November, Nick Greatens from Minnesota and his partner were forced to spend more time at home. So, the couple started two new pandemic hobbies – crocheting and fostering dogs. It never crossed their minds that their two new hobbies would go hand in hand.
Nick and his partner went to Ruff Start Rescue and took in two bonded senior Chihuahuas. They are Agnarr and Yelena, and they are from a hoarding situation. Initially, the two pups had a hard time trusting their new humans. They were timid and would barely let their foster parents touch them.
Thankfully, Agnarr and Yelena started to open up after a couple of days. Now, the pair could not get enough of cuddling with their humans. Agnarr, who was a lot more anxious than Yelena at first, had become deeply bonded with his foster dad. He always wanted to touch Nick every minute of every day.
Agnarr and Yelena are senior dogs who need to be rehomed together. According to Nick, these two are emotionally interdependent, spending most of the day cuddling and napping together. So, Nick knew that they would have a hard time getting adopted.
Nick described Yelena as a quiet old lady who wants nothing else than to sleep. On the other hand, Agnarr is a grumpy older man whose mission in life is to defend his turf. But, with his seven-pound weight and one good tooth, Agnarr is far from scary.
While Nick’s bond with his dogs was improving, his crocheting skills were also getting better. He would practice during his work meetings, which keeps his hands busy and his mind clear. However, committing to a big project was not yet in Nick’s mind.
Nick explained that he was not yet patient enough to make a human sweater. So, naturally, his instinct was to make tiny sweaters for his rescue dogs. Nick hoped that these would both keep the pets warm and help them find a forever family.
According to Nick, Agnarr is such a thin dog, and their apartment can get very cold. So, it seemed like Agnarr was so grateful for the sweater. The only thing that he did not like was the hat.
Now, Agnarr and Yelena are the best-dressed dogs in their neighborhood. They have also been adopted together, and their new forever family promises to continue keeping the pair the trendsetters around town.
