Residents of a small community in Henrico County, Virginia banded together to save a little pup that fell inside a well. When they learned that the terrified pooch was in there, they immediately called firefighters for help.
The rescue operation
Responders from Henrico County Fire Station rushed to the scene and found a small opening on the ground. It was old and haven’t been used for a long time. The dry well ran deep, approximately 20 feet.
The opening had been covered at some point, but now, it was open. The dog didn’t notice the hole as there was grass surrounding it.
To get inside and rescue the pup, the rescuers had to carefully widen the mouth. They made sure that no loose debris falls inside. They might hit and hurt the trapped pooch.
Once they had enough space to get one of the rescuers inside, they built a pulley system. This is to ensure the safety of the firefighter while he is being lowered inside.
When one of the rescuers hit the bottom, he collected the dog, who was surprisingly calm. He must have sensed that they were there to help him. A short while later, both of them were at ground level.
Everyone cheered when they realized that the dog was finally safe. A vet checked his condition, and he was lucky not to have suffered any injuries.
Heroic
The staff at the Henrico County Fire Station posted photos of the incident on their social media page, and tons of people lauded them for their heroic efforts. If the rescuers had not arrived in time, it was possible that the dog would have met a terrible fate.
These brave men and women surely deserve all the praise that they get. They don’t think twice about putting their own welfare on the line to rescue lives.
