Halo is a blind pit bull that was dumped in the woods. Nobody knew how long she stayed there, but she was all skin and bones when she was found. The dog was very weak, and there were several indications that she was abandoned there by her owner, perhaps because of her condition and old age.
Rescuers from a nonprofit animal charity organization heard about Halo through a post made on social media. Some hikers saw the poor pooch lying in the middle of a Mississippi forest and posted her photo online. Soon, some rescuers were sent to retrieve the dog.
Starving
Halo was initially reluctant to go with the women there to save her. But because she was starving, the dog couldn’t resist the food they kept waving in front of her face. She even grabbed the container so that she could finish all of it. They took the container back and used it to lead her to their vehicle.
They went to a vet directly to have her checked out. At that point, the rescuers weren’t sure if she would survive. She was soo weak and malnourished that her old body couldn’t effectively move around. The sick pit bull kept still most of the time, and when she did walk, it seemed that she was exerting all her efforts.
Medical foster care
Halo was prescribed antibiotics by a vet, and she continued her weight-building process in a medical foster home. It was a difficult journey that had its ups and downs. But eventually. the dog started thriving.
When she achieved her ideal weight, Halo was transferred to Connecticut, where another kind woman fostered her. Now that she was healthy, it was time to look for a permanent home for her. They have received several applications already, and they are hoping to find the perfect one.
