A dog that was abandoned at a lake in North Texas has finally found his forever home after wandering around by himself for more than seven months.
A beautiful Australian Shepherd-Lab mix named Ghost also spent time at the local shelter because he had greater needs.
For over seven months, Wes Milner kept receiving reports of a dog wandering around Lake Grapevine in Texas. The mysterious dog was reported to be active late at night or early morning, but would run away if someone tried to approach him.
A worried local sent Milner, the local animal services officer, blurry pictures and videos of the dog going through the trash at Whataburger.

In response, Milner tried to catch the animal so he could check on its welfare. Starting in June last year, Milner tried setting traps and cameras in order to catch the animal. However, none of it worked.
According to Milner, the dog was incredibly smart. He would notice the trap, bark at it, and leave the trap alone. He nicknamed the dog “Ghost” due to his ability to appear and disappear without a trace.
Milner gave the dog the nickname “Ghost” due to his abilities of escaping from both traps and pictures. Milner finally trapped the dog, which turned out to be an Australian Shepherd-Lab mix, at the start of 2022. But that’s when the tough part began.

Milner said that finding a forever home for Ghost was going to be tough as Ghost was going to require a lot of help and special attention. After months of searching, Milner finally found a forever home for Ghost when Jonathan Kaing and his wife showed up at the shelter.
Happy Accident
They were looking for a partner for their 7-year-old husky named Athena, and just happened to walk into Milner’s shelter.
Kaing said he adopted Ghost as he made Kaing feel some kind of way for Ghost.
“I saw Ghost kind of in the distance looking all sad. In my heart, I knew I just needed to take him away from that,” Kaing said.

After arriving at his forever home, Ghost was shy and timid for a while. He kept to himself in the corner of his new home, rarely interacting with his new parents.
“That’s what living on the streets for seven months can do for a dog,” Milner said.
Now, he is a bit more open and playful with his family and their other dog Athena. Kaing said that Kaing has “completely loosened up” and the family can see his real personality now.
Finally, the dog that someone abandoned, and refused to be caught, has finally found a forever home with warm parents.
